"Whosoever observes fast in Ramadan and then follows up with six fasts in Shawwal, will be regarded as though he had been fasting every day." (Reported by Muslim)
I just made up my missed days of Ramadan and today starts my 6 of Shawwal insha Allah. I've been told in the past that you can "double down" and fast with double intention. I've read shuyukh say that this is fine and I've read other opinions stating you need to "pay back" your missed fasts then fast your 6.
Ladies, what do you normally do?

I do neither, as you know.
Defo double up,
I got hubby to ask at the mosque and the imam said I could do this.
Purv: hehehee
Umm Salihah: How's one of my fave blogging mommies? Thanks for chiming in! Yeah I'm doing the double up this year. Insha Allah next week I'll start my regular fasting but I want to make it as easy as is halally possible.
Assalamo alaykum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh: Well..i was under the impression that one could 'double up', but after attending one of the Alkauthar courses last year i was enlightened further that there are some acts which can be combined and others that can not, and the fasts of shawwal falls under the category that requires it to be done independently of other fasting, and for menstruating women the missed fasts of ramadhan would take priority over the fasts of shawwal so they would have to be done first as they are the obligatory fasts, but if one would like to also keep the fasts of shawwal then it would have to be done so independently of the qadah fasts of ramadhan.
Nadia K is 100% correct. The fast of Shawwal is a Nafl fast. Where as when you miss fasts during the month of Ramadaan due to menstruation - you are missing out Fard(obligatory) fasts. So just as in salaah when we catch up on Qada'a - you make Fard first and Nafl optional. Also importantly is to note your niyaat (intention) on these days must be for Qada'an!
Asalaamu alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu,
Nadia & Haneem:
